Come with us to “the Bonnie Bonnie Banks”, we will take you on a journey to the romantic Loch Lomond where you can take an optional boat trip, or just enjoy the views.  Find out about one of the oldest Pictish settlements in Scotland.  Learn more about the clans and their tartans and the abundance of wildlife in The Trossachs National Park.  We head to Balloch for the optional 1 hour boat trip. The tour sails past six of the Lochs Stately Houses, each with a story to tell.   Past the impressive Ben Lomond which is the most southern of the Munro’s. 


Inveraray Castle.jpgOur next stop is Inveraray, situated on the shores of Loch Fyne in Argyll; this picturesque town is known as the gateway to Argyll.  There is much to see and plenty of attractions to visit, including Inveraray Castle, home to the Duke and Duchess of Argyll; The Inveraray Maritime Museum, which houses the ‘Arctic Penguin’  a  3 masted schooner built around 1911.  Why not visit the bell tower of St Mary’s Episcopal Church, which has spectacular views across Loch Fyne, as well as some of Scotland’s finest bells.
Oban.jpgBack on the bus or car and heading north to Oban for our overnight stay.  The first vista of Oban is a memorable one, whether viewing it from the sea or from the road you can begin to appreciate why Oban has developed into Scotland's most popular west coast holiday town. The panoramic views of the mountains, lochs and islands which have captivated artists, authors, composers, and poets for centuries are as striking now as they were when Dunollie Castle was the northern outpost of the Scots.

Day 2

Glencoe.jpgDepart Oban and again head north to Glencoe, one of Scotland’s most famous/infamous glens, popular with visitors from all over the world.  Parts of the third Harry Potter film were filmed in Glencoe during May and June 2007.  Why not go for a gentle stroll and enjoy the breathtaking scenery, or there is an optional visit to a folk museum to hear about it's tragic past.

Back on the bus or car to Fort William where we will stop for lunch, only 14 miles from Glencoe, this attractive town has many shops and plenty of places to eat and drink.  Nestled amid awe inspiring scenery, this gateway to the Highlands is a must see in any tour of Scotland.   At the foot of Ben Nevis, which at 4406m is Britain’s tallest mountain.

Nevis Range Gondola
For photographers and Nature buffs why not take a trip up the Nevis Range Gondola, the views are spectacular and it's great for a short walk to stretch your legs.  Or we could take you to the Ben Nevis Distillery for a "wee dram".  That is what’s so great about our tours’ it's just you on board so we can do whatever you like. 

 

Eilean Donan Castle.jpgHeading North again we’re making for Eilean Donan Castle that most iconic of Scottish Castles.  Situated on an island where three great sea lochs meet, surrounded by amazing scenery, it is hardly surprising that the castle is now one of the most visited attractions in the Scottish Highlands.  Anyone who has seen “Highlander” with Sean Connery & Christopher Lambert will recognise the castle.

We travel onto Portree on the Isle of Skye for your overnight stay, and will drop you at your chosen accommodation.  Portree is the main town on Skye and its name comes from the Gaelic  “Port-An-Righ” and translates as “Kings Port” the name probably dates back to 1540 when the town was visited by King James V with his fleet of warships.

 

 DAY 3

Our first visit today is Dunvegan Castle, ancestral home of the Macleod Clan.  See the remains of the “Fairy Flag” and hear about its legend.  Clan Parliaments are held here every 4 years and member of the Macleod clan flock from all parts of the world to take part in these very special family reunions.  We will have lunch in Uig, the name Uig is Norse for sheltered bay and it’s true that it’s often warm and dry when there is rain further south.

After lunch if you are a bit thirsty we will sample a bit of the “water of life” at Tallisker Distillery.  This is the only single malt distillery on Skye and was mentioned in a Robert Louis Stevenson poem of 1880.  We overnight back on the mainland in the Kyle of Lochalsh and Loch Carron area.

DAY 4


We head north again this morning to Ullapool, a picturesque fishing village located on the shores of Loch Broom.  There are several shops, restaurants, cafes and bars. 

We’ll stop here for lunch before heading to the very north of Scotland.

 


Smoo Cave, the largest and most dramatic coastline cave in Britain.  Those who want to can take a wander down to see the infamous Smoo cave, a smugglers hideaway and connections with witchcraft. 

 

South now for our last night in Inverness, we will arrive in time for dinner in this cosmopolitan city. 

 

 

 

 

DAY 5
Our first visit today is Culloden battle site & visitor centre.  This is the site of the last battle fought on British soil, where Bonnie Prince Charlie stood his ground against the Government Troops.

Next we visit  Urquhart Castle for some "Nessie" spotting. This has to be one of the most famous ruined castles in the world.  Built on a rocky outcrop on the fringes of Loch Ness and commanding stunning views across the Loch , this is another must-see on your tour.  Learn about the history of the castle in the visitor centre, look out for Nessie in the waters of the loch.  Loch Ness is the largest freshwater loch in Britain and is so large, it never freezes.

The area around the Loch is the heartland of historic clans, and you could be walking in your ancestors footsteps.  Discover the Loch Ness tartan, or your own tartan.

 We will have lunch in Drumnadrochit before heading south to Pitlochry where we will stretch our legs at the stunning “Pass of Killiekrankie”
